Furnas is born from 2 stories.
1 / You’ll notice it’s a play on “furnace”, a place where great heat is generated. It is designed to improve life: Warming a house, refining metal or materials, curing or baking, often to exact temperatures, to get the ideal outcome.
2 / Furnas is more importantly a very special place on the Azores Islands, where Brandon lived for 6 months serving the people there. It’s centered on the volcanic island São Miguel, with hot springs, boiling springs, and even places where you can cook food naturally underground. Azoreans collect fresh ingredients and bring them together in large metallic pots and cook them in “fumaroles”, or cooking holes in the ground. After several hours, the meal is beautifully cooked with deep flavors.
